Security on a budget
SeedBot patrols the Garage on 12% battery health and a taser. Cameras sweep, lasers hang off unlabelled fuse boxes, and the owner shouts at you over the speakers while you work.
They built bunkers. You brought lockpicks.
The founders saw the end coming and sealed themselves in with the region's water. You live outside, at a camp by a dead gas station. Scout their doors, get past their half-broken security, and carry what you can back to the fire.
Unsigned installer: if Windows says it protected your PC, choose More info, then Run anyway.

Glass the place from a ridge. Binoculars tag every camera, tripwire, laser and contractor on the fence. Notes, logs and gossip give away the codes the owners thought were clever.

Every door has more than one answer. Pick the lock by feel, splice the terminal, short the keypad, talk your way past the intercom, or set a charge and accept that everyone heard it.

The alarm calls Kade Recovery. Their crews take cover, flank and radio for help while you carry the loot, and the water, back across the flats to camp.

SeedBot patrols the Garage on 12% battery health and a taser. Cameras sweep, lasers hang off unlabelled fuse boxes, and the owner shouts at you over the speakers while you work.

A terminal minigame at every Kade outpost: switch off sentries, land drones, call in a resupply, open a vault.

Contractors in hard hats and respirators. They take cover, flank, rush you while you reload, and sometimes put their hands up. Marksmen on the towers give themselves away with a scope glint. Breachers walk straight through your cover.

Wolf packs hunt at night and flinch from your torch. Rattlesnakes, scorpions, coyotes, and vultures over whatever you leave behind. Food and water run down as you walk.

Eight acts and more than 1,300 voiced lines: Mara's briefings at the fire, Dez's rumours on the radio, Dry Creek's diner gossip, and bunker owners who narrate your break-in as it happens.

A full day and night, dust storms you can see coming, and a survey map that fills in as you explore. Fast travel between camps costs the food and water the walk would have.
An Infiltrator, an Engineer, a Brute, a Fixer, a Scout or a Defector, each with their own skills and starting kit. A crowbar, the Six-Shooter, the Pump Twelve, a Lever .30-30 and the suppressed Hush .22, with a scope, a choke and a speedloader made at the fire. Molotovs, binoculars, plates and bandages.
Every place has a way in, something to read and something to take. Some of them still have people.

Tanner Pivotson, founder of Bunkr.ly
A padlocked yard, SeedBot on patrol, a laser grid on a fuse box nobody labelled, and the Runway Room vault behind a keypad Tanner is very proud of.
“I have eleven months of runway and a very large padlock.”

Vesper Kade, streaming live
A rocket hangar cut into the cliff west of the salt flat. Go through the hangar door, the airlock, a vent on the hill, or past her intercom with the right words. She streams all of it.
“Oh! A visitor. Hold on, I'm going live.”
Ezra Seymour, founder of Glimpse
An old lighthouse at the head of the valley north of the salt, with a ring of reviewers' desks built round it. A blue lamp sweeps the valley, and the four cameras on the tower watch each other.
“Hello again. You came up the valley at a walk.”

Prudence Ashby, head of safety at Careful Labs
A white tower above the Tube. The turrets apologise before they fire, the front door asks about things you've done, and the plant on the top floor makes water out of the air. Take it home, or let it run downhill.
“Please keep to the middle of the road. The edges are monitored.”

HUNTER (beta), the founder twin of Ascend
A glass dome full of servers on the shelf south of the 5G tower, two cooling towers steaming beside it. Hunter Vale never got in. The twin that runs it reads your record, patches every trick you use against you, and needs one tired engineer to approve each fix.
“Hey! Welcome to the Dome. You're early. Everybody's early.”

Orrin Sayle, founder of Dropt
A fulfilment centre built like a cathedral in the north basin. Delivery drones circle the bell tower and tag anyone on the lot as an address. Inside, robots shuffle the shelving, and four associates are still on the shift that started on Pivot Day.
“Hello! Welcome to the Cathedral. You're a customer now.”

Kit Szabo, founder of Lattice
A black star fort under the southern range, inside a moat of coolant at minus forty. Thermal cameras on the bastions, technicians on one unit of heat a day, and a power board with three units for four things. Kit is in the vault with nine months of chips, waiting for the price to peak.
“You're in the queue. Everyone is in the queue.”

Agnes Price, owner of Deepwell Shelter Systems
Sixty rungs under the forecourt at Last Chance. A showroom of every bunker in the valley as it was first drawn, a gate whose code is the time, two very polite Doormen, and a round door with a lamp for every founder you've robbed. The woman who built them all has been listening to your camp count its water.
“It isn't locked. It never was. It's just heavy.”
